Not all breeders are bad and not all are good. The same goes for rescues as well. The most important thing you can do when deciding where to get your next dog from is research. You know you want a dog, you know what you want in a dog, now where do you go?
This post will be a brief overview. Following blog posts will go into details on how to find a responsible breeder or rescue. If you want a purebred dog then you can look to either a breeder or a rescue. Decide on a distance you are willing to look. This may be very close to you, a few hours away, a day's drive, or a flight. Some breeders and rescues will ship but others will not. Then look for breeders/rescues within that distance. Time to do your research on these people. Google them. Are there lots of bad reviews out there? Do you see something questionable? If anything makes you hesitate on that breeder or rescue then move on. Be prepared that a good breeder or rescue is going to have lots of questions for you. They might want to see your house, have you sign a contract, and be added to a waiting list. These are usually good signs.
